Why 2.4gHz and not 5gHz?

There are several disadvantages to a 5GHz wireless device. One is that the higher the frequency of a wireless signal, the shorter its range. For example, 2.4 GHz devices cover a substantially larger range than 5 GHz.

5 GHz devices do not penetrate solid objects such as walls nearly as well as do 2.4 GHz signals. 

One perceived advantage of a higher frequency is speed (latency). However, 5GHz devices are not necessarily faster than the CF-80 which runs on 2.4GHz. The CF-80 uses the 802.11g channel that matches or can be faster that 5GHz 802.11a, and it's noticeable with the CF-80's remarkable under 4ms latency!
